abstract:
The public space in the contemporary city is a victim both of phenomenon of "aestheticization" of events caused by globalization as well as the emptying of its significance and contents. In many European inner city, an increasing lack of traditional commercial activities has been studied. Several scholars have linked this observable process to the development of "globalized" commercial areas. This phenomenon will be observed through a qualitative and quantitative analysis, which will be used to define the nature of the link between these two polarizing urban processes. The case study approach will be used to investigate the reality of the Piazza Mercato area in the city of Naples and the Centro Ingrosso Sviluppo of Nola, located in a nearby suburban area. The aim is to develop a comprehensively articulated interpretive model capable of describing the complexity of this phenomenon, which significantly influences public space and its use in the consolidated city.
