Solar Wind Turbulence Features for Parallel and Perpendicular Sampling Direction

Abstract
Publication Date:
2020
abstract:
The anisotropic nature of solar wind turbulence is reflected in the field and plasma parameters depending on the sampling direction of the observer with respect to the local field. At fluid scales, sampling in the quasi parallel direction would favor the observation of slab turbulence characterized by high Alfvénicity and low compressibility while, sampling at more oblique direction would favor the observation of 2D turbulence, characterized by enhanced compressibility and depleted Alfvénicity. Moreover, several studies at kinetic scales, based only on magnetic field data, allowed to identify right and left-handed polarization status attributed to KAWs and ICWs, respectively. So far, it has not been possible to analyze neither the corresponding plasma observations at the same scales nor the effects of radial evolution on this kind of observations. The SWA plasma suite offers this opportunity for the first time and we will report on this particular aspect of solar wind fluctuations.
