abstract:
When molecules are irradiated by x-rays complicated breakup reactions are initiated: inner shell excitation or ionization leads to a cascade of Auger decays resulting in multiple ionization and multiple bond breaks. During the last years high resolution electron ion coincidence spectroscopy has developed into a standard tool to analyse molecular break-up reaction pathways. If ion pairs or the momenta of the fragment ions are also recorded, a very detailed analysis of the break-up reaction becomes possible. A manifold of interesting processes can be studied. Here we will discuss site specific fragmentation of CH(3)F, F(3)Si-CH(2)-Si(CH(3))(3), F(3)Si-CH(2)-CH(2)-Si(CH(3))(3) and Cl(3)Si-Si(CH(3))(3) and electron transfer during the break up of CH(3)F.
