Neutron scattering in 36Ar at very low momentum transfer

The dynamic structure factor of gaseous 36Ar has been measured at room temperature by means of neutron scattering at very low momentum transfer. Deviations from hydrodynamics at intermediate density, and from single-particle dynamics at very low density, have been investigated and compared with theoretical predictions.
