Adsorption of water vapor on quartz, palladium, and palladium-nickel alloy

Academic Article
Publication Date:
1998
abstract:
Adsorption of water vapor on single crystal quartz substrates and polycrystalline Pd and Pd:Ni films has been experimentally studied at room temperature and atmospheric pressure using surface acoustic waves. The amount of adsorbed species has been estimated. Adsorption-induced changes in the density ??/? of the films and their elastic moduli of the second order ?Cij/Cij have been measured. Anomalously great changes in the ?C11/C11 value have been observed for small amounts of adsorbed species. The water vapor adsorption process for quartz has been established to occur much slower than desorption of this vapor.
