The papers presented in this issue of
Education and Information Technologies
dis-
cuss the theme Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Educational Tools: Theory
into Practice. This theme was selected as the basis for exploring the synergy which
exists between HCI and the design of educational tools, in the anticipation that in-
sights from each of the two areas would prove mutually enriching. A further over-
arching theme concerns the potential of advanced computing technologies not
simply to support but to transform teaching and learning.
