Mineralogy of pelitic "Bisciaro' & "Schlier' sediments in S. Croce and Moria sections (Marche region, Italy)

abstract:
Two sections, including the entire Bisciaro Formation (S. Croce) and the basal portion of the Schlier Formation (Moria), are examined in details and described from the mineralogical point of view. The most abundant lithologies are constituted by marly sediments, with variable amounts of free silica (of different origin) and by fine grained volcano-sedimentary products (V-S). The chemistry of glass indicates a dacitic-rhyodacitic composition according to both major and minor elements and orogenic affinity. The volcanic provinces of Sardinia-Provenza were supposed to be the source areas of northern apenninic cinerites and bentonites
