abstract:
The sustainability criteria for biofuels and bioliquids to be implemented by Member states
are described in the 2009/30/EC and 2009/28/CE directives.
Directive 2009/30/EC and Directive 2009/28/CE introduce sustainability criteria for biofuels
and bioliquids. Member States have to implement a verification system on the respect
of these criteria.
The German system has a unique hierarchical structure, in which the Federal Office for
Agriculture and Food (BLE), having a control on the entire chain of biofuels and bioliquids,
is entitled to approve one or more national certification systems.
Nowadays, the ISCC is the only recognized system to be approved by the EU even as a
voluntary system.
ISCC identifies the interfaces subjected to certification at any production phase. The first
interface identified is the first biomass gathering point
