Tra conoscenza e immaginazione Ricostruzione virtuale dell'ambiente sonoro nella chiesa di Sant'Ignazio a Roma

Chapter
Publication Date:
2023
abstract:
The present paper analyzes the basic principles of the 3D modeling of the acoustic environment in the Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, sited in the IV rione of Rome called Campus Martius. This virtual reconstruction provides important information to enrich the knowledge of this church as it actually appears, and as the genius of Andrea Pozzo imagined it painting his famous false dome. New dimensions are added to those already treated in the architecture and art fields. We will deal with the geometry of both the real space and the illusionistic space, considering that the geometry represents the exact meeting point between Architecture and Acoustics. The objective of this study is to evaluate the contribution of the painted false dome with respect to the hypothetic presence of a real dome. Furthermore, according to a divulgative approach, an immersive and engaging listening experience will enrich the scientific analysis.
