Preliminary study of hollow-cone spray by PDA analyzer for LPP conduct

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2004
abstract:
Spray instabilities are of considerable importance in several technical processes, such as fuel injection in combustion system. Combustion is dependent on effective atomisation to increase the specific surface area of the fuel and achieve high rates of mixing and evaporation. The main objective of this work is the characterization of the drop size distribution and droplet velocities of a kerosene hollow-cone spray through a series of phase-Doppler anemometry measurements and high-speed imaging. Results indicate droplet diameters are the smallest at the spray centreline (5 micron) and grow with radial distance from the centreline at the spray periphery. Preliminary investigation using high speed imaging allowed to estimate the spray sheet oscillation frequency.
