The wear resistance of alumina/alumina titanate laminate composites has been evaluated by dry sliding tests against WC pins in a disc-on-pin arrangement. The ceramic laminate composites were designed so to have the external alumina layer in compression due to the difference in thermal expansion coefficients. The comparison with a bulk alumina has shown that the wear resistance of the laminate composites was significantly superior
