Abstract:
This paper aims to define an interface for the Controller Area Network (CAN) data-link layer that both fits well with the IEEE Std 1003.1 socket paradigm, and allows the user to access the full range of capabilities implemented by CAN interface controllers. At the same time, this paper also attempts to set up a detailed set of specifications and guidelines for the actual implementation of the proposed interface.
