Abstract:
Examining a series of franco-italian entries that have not yet been fully and correctly explained, this essay provides new plausible etymologies and suggests alternative meanings. The entries collected and listed here - beu; borfolu; cogorir; dielle; frecable and frecablement, frecevol and frecevolmant; frize and vereton; grisler; moïer; reençon; saovesin; solibione/sulipion; strepon - belong to various franco-italian texts that can be mainly located in the Veneto region. After drawing this preliminary methodological framework, the Author puts forward some general considerations about the status and practice of franco-italian studies, underlining how the poorness of lexicographic research in this field prevents us from clearly understanding the extent and implications of what proves to be a very complex linguistic and literary phenomenon.
