Abstract:
Geological models, and related geo-databases, derived from the integration of multiple datasets, are important tools for land planning and management of underground resources. This contribution describes a geo-database structure designed to manage a large amount of geo-environmental data used for setting up a subsurface 3D model of the Torino area, at the western termination of the Po Plain. An innovative dataset structure, founded on an explicit conceptual model, was designed to provide a reliable representation of the distribution of well and boreholes data along x, y and z axes, as well as their integration with surface geology. This framework allowed the elaboration of 3D a geological-hydrostratigraphic model, portraying the distribution and geometry of the subsurface sedimentary successions, and those of the aquifer systems and permeability barriers. Some issues related to the representation of well data and boreholes in the z axis (QGIS), as well as their conversion and transfer to 3D software (GMS - Growndwater Modeling System) were also discussed.
