abstract:
The study of algae may be of didactic value. Algae are not only of interest to the specialist but also to who ever approaches the world of the seacoast for the first time; algae are good environmental indicators. A simple observation method is to collect specimens washed ashore and to identify them with the help of a taxonomic manual. Specimens in fresh condition (undamaged thallus) can be preserved and saved in a herbarium. This herbarium can serve as didactic material and may be used to study variations of the algal flora over time.
