Il Mediterraneo come spazio di frizione: le pratiche di accoglienza dal "lavoro d'aiuto" al "lavoro sociale"

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2018
abstract:
Mediterranean societies have for some decades been witnessing profound changes due to new socio-political conflicts and mobility processes related to migration of populations. Migration is an area of operational commitment and this means that a clear framework of reference is needed that will enable policies and interventions to be calibrated in an appropriate way, and will also attempt to interpret future trends. In this scenario, the integration of immigrants is the result of two-way processes: the migrants' social representations of the host population and society (before and after arrival), as well as of the immaterial resources available, are paramount for their integration. This leads us to think that the disturbances of daily life as a result of forced mobility (migration) allow us to reflect on the role of operators and the effects their interventions have on the populations who receive help and also on the very same operators who are devoting themselves to «social work».
