The SM2RAIN code for estimating rainfall from soil moisture data was made freely available here. If you do not believe it is possible, try yourself!

The code is written in the MATLABĀ® programming language and is fully commented. The description of the algorithm and of its performance can be found in Brocca et al. (2013):
