abstract:
Aglio di Vessalico is a garlic cultivar traditionally grown in the eastern area of the Ligurian region. It is a source of income for local inhabitant. The crop is infected by the three major virus groups of garlic and by several pathogenic fungi and bacteria. In this paper two methods employed to yield virus free plants are reported: meristem culture; callus induction in presence of ribavirin followed by plant regeneration. Healthy plants may contribute to increase yield and improve post harvest preservation of garlic bulbs.
