abstract:
The results of the first phase of an on-going activity aimed at demonstrating the feasibility of numerically simulating the vortex shedding induced pressure oscillation phenomenon in solid rocket motors are presented and discussed. The work illustrated in this paper concerns a numerical configuration, known as test case C0 and C1. The solution obtained are in very good agreements with the data available for comparison. The sensitivity of the calculations to the computational grid and to the fluid viscosity has been investigated, showing a rather strong influence on the correct capturing of this complex phenomenon.
