Il Guatemala di Estrada Cabrera e Ubico. Dall'equilibrio tra le fazioni all'egemonia delle corporation
Chapter
Publication Date:
2015
abstract:
The paper analyzes the relationships among national sovereign authorities and big corporations in Latin America between '800 and '900. Such relationships will be considered as a key factor to interpret increasing global struggles among growing imperialisms and private economic operators and political competition among local patronage networks. In the specific context of Guatemala, internal stability brought long-term dictatorships. Rulers' increasing personal power was the consequence both of political hegemony achieved by the US in Central America and the commercial one by United Fruit.
