Selectivity comparison of diamond- and square-mesh codends of Mediterranean bottom trawl.

In the present study, the results and the procedures adopted in the research project "Selectivity comparison of diamond and square mesh codends of Mediterranean bottom trawl", financed by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Policies are reported. The main objective of this project is to study the effect of inserting square mesh codend into the traditional commercial Italian trawl. A comparative study was carried out to determine the selectivity and the efficiency of a traditional diamond and an experimental square mesh codends.
