POLARIZED RAMAN-SPECTRA OF POLYACETYLENES AND POLYTHIOPHENES

The results of an extensive study of the polarized resonant Raman scattering from cis polyacetylene and from polythiophene are presented. Depolarization ratios measured on isotropic samples appear to be inconsistent with the view that the visible absorption band is dominated by a single transition polarized along the chain axis.
