abstract:
Hydraulic cement is not a modern invention. Its origin goes back to Romans and ancient Greeks, as testified by a lot of historical constructions, mainly in western Europe, made of cement stones consisting of mortar and concrete based on aggregates of lime, volcanic ash and water. Actually, the classic cement of the Roman age is named "pozzolana" due to its geographical origins (from the city of Pozzuoli, in Italy).
