Examination of Soot Deposition on EGR Coolers

Exhaust gas recirculation is an established method for the in-cylinder reduction of exhaust emissions. Fouling, the formation of soot deposits, is a widespread problem in EGR coolers. Valeo has examined what influence technology and engine operating conditions have on fouling and how soot deposits in the coolers can be characterised.
