abstract:
Digital Libraries are a kind of Information System whose development spanned the last twenty years and will continue in the future because of the fundamental role they have assumed in our information/knowledge society. Also, they are becoming powerful and effective instruments revolutionizing the way the overall human knowledge lifecycle is operated. In this paper, the evolutionary process conducting to the current, multi-instanced and still evolving status of affairs as well as the motivations governing it are identified and presented.
