Joint communication and sensing in 5G-V2X vehicular networks

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2022
abstract:
Joint Communication and Sensing (JCS) is a promising technique that can be used to exploit signals already available from current or future communication systems for sensing purposes. In this paper, we focus on vehicular scenarios, envisioning future vehicles that use on-board communication technologies also for radar sensing, thus increasing their awareness of the environment. Objective of this work is to provide an overview of current research on JCS specifically tailored to vehicular networks. Moreover, this paper presents example results for range and speed estimation performance when sidelink 5G-V2X is adopted as communication and sensing technology, characterizing the impact of the scenario in terms of number of vehicles and type of target.
