abstract:
Over the last decades, the use of mathematical groundwater transport and flow models has had considerable development, both in the public and private sectors, as a tool for managing groundwater resources and planning actions aimed at improving the quali-quantitative state of aquifers. Several European and non-European countries have been developed and made available to administrators, technicians, as well as to practitioners, "guidelines" for the development of these models, intended both as "best-practice" tools and as evaluation tools. Such experiences in Italy are limited mainly to the definition of the minimum content necessary for the assessment of the hydrogeological models, developed to support the design and the verification of groundwater's remediation in contaminated sites.
This document intends to identify the main elements (eg analysis of the representativity of the available data, reliability of the calibration process) necessary for the realization of an operative reference for the elaboration and the evaluation of hydrogeological models and therefore useful to the stakeholder (proposers and control authorities), also necessary in order to converge towards a coherent evaluation system on the whole national system.
