Secondary optics design for mitigating tracking errors in a linear CPV system

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2011
abstract:
Maximizing the optical efficiency of a linear CPV system implies providing the appropriate cells lighting even when an off axis sun tracking angle occurs. Optical aberrations and the effects of solar divergence contribute to spread the concentrated light. On the other hand, the small cells size imposes severe requirements to the dimensions of the linear sun image produced by the collector. A secondary optics device has been appositely designed and optimized to guarantee an appropriate lighting of the cells in a range of -0,5< dy <0,5. As result the system has a lower efficiency in ideal work condition, but it is more stable in many more realistic operating situations.
