abstract:
This work attempts to create an information system for the management of security measures and remediation practice of contaminated sites, throughout authentication server technologies.
The main feature of the decision support system illustrated in this work is the direct update of the associated database with results obtained from laboratory-scale investigations and/or in situ experiments.
In the project "Banca Dati Tossicologica del suolo e dei prodotti derivati" (BDT), a database on the best practices and technologies to remediate contaminated sites was created. This database was integrated with information (metadata) obtained through experimental activities. The latter were carried out in the "Parco Nazionale dell'Alta Murgia", which is considered of high importance not only for wildlife and unique landscape but also for agriculture, and historical and cultural features.
Soil contamination by hydrocarbons in combination with high concentrations of total chromium was found in a wide area of the site. A laboratory-scale investigation was carried out to evaluate the efficiency of landfarming practices for the enhancement of HC biodegradation, also taking into account the potential effect of bioremediation operations on mobilization of chromium. To this aim, the effect of soil aeration and the addition of nutrients and amendments of different origin were tested.
The results of the study led to define parameters that were implemented in the BDT database and subsequently processed through multicriteria analysis technologies, thus providing useful support to the decisional processes that allow planning of remediation actions in similar cases.
The database, realized by CNR-IRSA and Università del Salento (university of salento) for the Assessorato all'Ecologia della Regione Puglia, (Apulia region ecology department) is based on a web interface and developed in MySql. The applications used are developed on Open Source software and the system is well-integrated, innovative and characterized by high interoperability.
