Abstract:
the main objectives of this volume are studying certain characteristics of the cultural industry, focusing on
some specific sectors and examining the impacts it generates on the territory. This book focuses on the city
of Turin, placing it within the debate on public policies aimed at countering the deindustrialization taking
place in Piedmont, as in many other Italian and European regions. In fact, statistics on the cultural industry,
updated annually by Symbola (2023), confirm the growth of the sector and its opportunities to stand
alongside the more innovative tertiary sector in compensating for the employment's loss suffered by the
more traditional industry. In this volume, the interest in the city is made explicit in the following areas of
analysis: a study of the general presence of the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI); an in-depth study of
the design sector, for which Turin has been named a UNESCO Creative City; an analysis of two very
relevant music festivals promoted by the city; and the measurement of the economic impact generated by
the Salone del Libro, the territory's most important cultural event. A further objective of the volume is to
suggest indicators for "measuring" culture. These indicators could be placed in dialogue with the set of
indicators represented in the model of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
