Eleonora d'Arborea, giudicessa tra storia e mito

In medieval Sardinia of the second half of the fourteenth century, in a period in which the existence of the Giudicato of Arborea was strongly undermined by the power of the Crown of Aragon, the centuries-old war that was established between the two states delimits the background of human events and of the personality of Eleonora, judge in Arborea from 1383 to 1403, in a succession of historical events that are firmly intertwined with the legends and personal vicissitudes of a "Judge"of great value. This is a period in which the concept of territorial Sardinia is about to change into the state one. The judicial royal prerogatives, which are not found in any other territory of Byzantine or barbarian formation, have such a connotation as to detract from the importance of the origin matrix and make it an original government organization. One of the most notable actions carried out by Eleonora during her reign was the updating of the "Carta de Logu", promulgated at the time by her father Mariano IV and revised by her brother Judge Ugone III, with which she gave a stable and lasting arrangement to the regulations and legal institutions of the kingdom. In the legislative Corpus there is an openness to the modernity of certain norms and the juridical wisdom that contains elements of the Roman-canonical tradition, the Byzantine one, the Bolognese jurisprudence and the thought of the glossators of the Catalan curial culture itself, especially of local legal elaboration of Sardinian customs implemented by Sardinian municipal law.
