abstract:
This paper deals with glass-based photonic structures, which allow to control and modify the optical and spectroscopic properties of rare earth ions. Three structures have been fabricated and characterized: sol-gel-derived SiO2-HfO2 planar waveguides, rf-sputtered SiO2 -TiO2 1-D photonic band gap structures, and Er3+-activated Ag exchanged silicate glasses.
