Investigation of Sloshing Phenomena near the Critical filling depth through the Hilbert-Huang Transformation

abstract:
Sloshing is a resonant phenomenon characterizing the motion of a fluid in a partially filled tank forced to move by external forces. In naval context, it is an important issue for LNG tanks
and in general for the partially filled tanks on board of ships. When the motion of the ship in seaway couples with fluid motion inside the tank, the stability of the ship as well the tank
structure can be undermined. The present study follows into the footsteps of Colagrossi et al. (2006) and it aims to investigate the possible scenarios associated with sloshing flows.
