This study prospectively investigates the association between self-reported psychological distress and long-term total and cardiovascular mortality in a population based cohort. Self-reported psychological distress seems to be an independent risk factor for CVD, particularly Cerebro-vascular disease, and may have an impact on the prevention of CVD mortality in elderly
