abstract:
In the present work we look for an optimal relation between radar reflectivity and precipitation, particularly suitable for
resolving small precipitation/not precipitation thresholds. The problem is faced by maximizing the Equitable Threat Score
index obtained over a dataset, composed to be representative of low precipitations, applying the typical esponential parametric
radar relationships. To attain this goal we make use of rain gauges data acquired by the OSMER FVG network, and
radar data from Fossalon di Grado site. The obtained formulas can be applied, as first order approximation, to any Cband
radar, even if it is recommendable to apply again this method in order to obtain optimal results for other radar instruments
having different performances and operating in various geographic and climatic conditions.
