Studi e progetti per la creazione del Parco Archeologico di Chan Chan

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2011
abstract:
Chan Chan (IX-XV cent AD - List at the UNESCO's World heritage since 1986) is the biggest pre-Columbian city of Latin America built in adobe. The site, capital of Chimú, represents the synthesis of an evolution autonomous from the pre-Columbian cultures of Northern Peru. The Italian Mission of CNR-ITABC works at Chan Chan since 2002 collaborating with the Ministerio de Cultura for the fulfilment of the Plan Maestro, the management plan for the site required by the UNESCO. The Mission follows three specific objectives which are: the creation of an Archaeological Park, the presentation of the characteristic architecture to the tourist through virtual and multi-medial visits, and the valorisation of the complex through international agreements for collaboration. With the help of modern techniques of inquiry and data acquisition, which can be satellite images, GIS systems, photogrammetric relief and laser scanner, the Mission makes a great documentation work and analysis either of a territorial scale or at an architectonic level and tries to create new modalities for visiting, and creating more accessibility to tourism and in order to get into the international circuits. The Mission has promoted, through collaboration agreements with italian and international institutes, the creation of training courses for artisans with the purpose of assisting the socio-economic evolution of the population through the development of the cultural resources.
