Time-domain analysis of ship motions and wave loads by boundary-integral equations

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2001
abstract:
The linearized ship-wave interaction problem is studied in time domain by a potential flow model. The resulting boundary-value problem is recast in terms of integral equations, and solved numerically by a panel method. A transient-test technique, based on the interaction of a wave packet with the advancing ship, is numerically simulated and allows for the efficient evaluation of the response amplitude operator. Implementations details are described. Results are given for a variety of ship forms and compared against experimental data to show the good capabilities of the developed numerical algorithm.
