In Emilia-Romagna region, the reduction of land take and soil consumption has recently become a target in land planning policies. In this paper, an analysis of the dynamics of soil based ecosystem services as affected by urbanisation in presented for the period between 1997-2008. Some suggestions on land planning policies towards the goal of no net land take are also presented. The analysis, based on a methodological framework which can be applied at different information and cartographic detail level, evidences the land take impact on the multiple soil based ecosystem services provided by different soils.
