abstract:
We briefly review some recent progress in the development of anisotropic models for large scale simulations of the spread of the cardiac excitation. At a macroscopic level the cardiac tissue can be represented by a continuous bidomain model and the excitation process is governed by a degenerate evolution problem of reaction-diffusion (RD) type. This problem exhibits considerable numerical difficulties related to a steep front of the transmembrane potential spreading through the myocardium. In order to perform large scale simulations ...
