abstract:
A population of the Italy species (= biotype T) of the Bemisia tabaci species complex discovered for the first time in Campania Region (southern Italy). This note reports the discovery for the first time in the Campania region (southern Italy) of a population of the italy species (= biotype T) of the bemisia tabaci species complex on euphorbia characias L. plants sampled in Castellammardi Stabia (Naples) municipality. This species is known only to Italy where it has been recorded in Sicily and Apulia regions. On the basis of this record, the Italy species appears to have a distribution in southern Italy wider than assumed so far. The importance of monitoring
insect pests known to be a complex of cryptic species, as b. tabaci is, and the risks associated with unpredictable changes of their ecology, arbriefly analyzed.
