Neuroactive steroids and ethanol exposure: Relevance to ethanol sensitivity and alcohol use disorders risk
Chapter
Publication Date:
2019
abstract:
This chapter summarizes evidence that GABAergic neuroactive steroids are modulated by alcohol in mouse, rat, monkey, and humans, contribute to ethanol sensitivity, modulate ethanol consumption, and may be deficient in ethanol dependence. These data provide a rationale for exploration of the therapeutic effects of GABAergic neuroactive steroids in alcohol use disorders.
