Nanoparticles and Immunological Frailty

Chapter
Publication Date:
2013
abstract:
While innate and adaptive immunity are very efficient in defending our organism and maintaining its functionality in normal conditions, there are situations in which immunity is not fully effective. Immunological frailty can be the consequence of various circumstances, in particular ongoing diseases and aging. How the weakened immune system can deal with incurring nanoparticles is a major concern. This chapter will summarize the most frequent situations of immunological frailty, in order to identify the population groups at risk, and review the scantly information available to date. © 2014 Elsevier Inc.
