abstract:
The paper illustrates the analysis of the historical-architectural and urban transformations of the Neapolitan Complex of Sant'Ar
cangelo a Baiano in the Forcella district.
The Complex, comprised of the very ancient church and the adjoining convent, is investigated in its urban context of reference from
the Angevin age until the 18th century when, following its cession to the Padri della Mercede in 1645, it became a generating element of new
spaces and renewed welfare and collective functions.
The discovery of new documents, the comparative reading of artistic literature and archival drawings with historical cartography and
the documentation produced by the Soprintendenza per i Beni Ambientali e Architettonici di Napoli e Provincia during the consolidation and
restoration of the church of Sant'Arcangelo a Baiano between 1999 and 2003, constitute the premises for an initial update and a more de
tailed cognitive investigation of the evolutionary events of the Complex of Baiano, allowing new reconstructive hypotheses to be advanced
