Precipitation Science Measurement, Remote Sensing, Microphysics, and Modeling - Rainfall microphysical characterization over the Mediterranean area during the GPM era

abstract:
This chapter focuses on two different analyses linked to each other: if, on one side, we investigate the differences between single frequency- and dual frequency-based
DPR products, on the other side, we investigate the reliability of both DPR and DPR-GMI algorithms in estimating microphysical and integral DSD parameters (namely, Dm, Nw, and RR) also trying to identify conditions that affect the goodness of the estimation. While for the first part of the study we use 5 years of DPR data (i.e., from 2015 to 2019), for the second part, we considered a number of DPR overpasses, in the same period, over Italy where coincident measurements with ground radar network were available.
