Axisymmetric Navier-Stokes Computation of Two Hyperboloid Flares in Reentry Configuration

abstract:
Numerical solutions of the axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations are presented for the hypersonic flow over two hyperboloid flares in reentry configuration. The governing equations are integrated by means of a time marching Finite Volume shock capturing method, based on cell centered location of the unknowns. Different inviscid flux function dormulations, in the context of high resolution upwind TVD schemes, have been employed, and their respective performances assessed for this particular flow problem. A grid convergence study for both flare configurations is carried out. Numerical results put into evidence interesting features of a recently proposed hybrid vector splitting scheme.
