PERCOLATIVE FRAGMENTATION DURING THE GASIFICATION OF CARBONS

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
1997
abstract:
A model of percolative fragmentation during the gasication of porous carbon particles is proposed. A Monte-Carlo technique is used to simulate the porous particle. The model applies both to uniform and diusion limited gasication regimes. The eect of cohesive forces in keeping topologically disconnected fragments attached to the mother particle is also considered. Results are analysed in terms of the fraction of solid carbon that leaves the particle as unconverted fragments and of the size distribution of fragments on mass basis. The influence of non-uniform gasication, of topological properties of the lattice and of the extent of cohesive forces is presented and discussed.
