A review of the literature on the use of microwave heating for the conservation of works of art

Microwave heating is a promising technology for the conservation of artworks from biodeterioration phenomena. It was demonstrated to be effective on different materials, and against various forms of pests, rapid and safe. A more systematic approach to treatment planning, involving electromagnetic characterization of materials and dosimetry analysis could boost its effective use in this field.
