Matching fluid influence on field scattered from breast tumour: Analysis using 3D realistic numerical phantoms

Abstract:
Preliminary results are reported, aimed to evaluate to which extent the field scattered by a breast tumour is affected by the choice of the matching fluid permittivity ?? f. The female breast has been modelled using highly accurate 3D numerical phantoms, and the forward electromagnetic scattering phenomena is studied via the Contrast-Source integral equation. The analysis reveals the influence of ?? f on the scattered field is dependent on the morphological characteristics of the breast under consideration. © 2012 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.
