Symmetry of the Oxygen Hole State in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 Investigated by XAS

Academic Article
Publication Date:
1989
abstract:
We have observed strong polarization dependence in the X-ray absorption near the oxygen K edge m a single crystal of B12Sr2CaCu208 (T¢ = 85 K). The results show that O-derived holes near the Fermi-level have p~.y (perpendicular to the c-axis) symmetry. Some consequences for models of superconductiv:ty are d:scussed. The concentrat:on of holes is estimated to be about equal to that in YBa2Cu307
