In Italy, environmental assessments still present major procedural and methodological problems, also due to the lack of a common and shared knowledge base which could coordinate and facilitate local scale assessments and make them more efficient and significant. This paper proposes some considerations about particularly critical aspects of the evaluation process, which would deserve a specific examination in guidelines, technical regulations, operative tools, strategic environmental frameworks.
